First blog. First post. A start-up comment on the web 2.0 video – which feels a little creapy to me.
How much role and freedom do we really have in creating the web? Who creates all these quizzes, games, scrabulous, superwalls and the likes in Facebook? Is this really agency or are we just consumers who are sold the pretence of freedom of choice and creation and production?
Here are all my recent – or not so recent – requests on facebook:
Now a little bit on film web culture, which I intend on exploring here (if I manage not to digress too much) -starting with the Film “Cache” by Michael Haneke. See trailer:
Would this constitute a community - a community interested in discussing this particular film? Does it give one a sense of identity by presenting oneself as liking/not liking the film? As part of one’s own museum?
How about people creating a new film or trailer based on an existing film? I am looking forward to reading more about community and identity on the web. Starting with reading danah boyd
I think ‘film on the web’ is a good idea. I hope you’ll go beyond YouTube though… I think the web has become a great outlet for film… for audience, producers and media buffs and there are some interesting projects going around. I use trailers to teach my students about storyboarding, for example. Others use the web to showcase independent film production – like Double Edge films or the 1 second film project. Look forward to seeing where you go with this.
I like the way you’ve put all the links and things in! Must try this myself soon. I’m not very brave about it! Very interesting what you write re Facebook. How do you have time to sift through all that?
Bye for now.
